“There is nothing quite like vinyl,” says owner of Oshawa’s newest record store

Andre Lessard owns Another Spin, a new record store that recently opened in downtown Oshawa that sells used vinyl records, CDs, books, tapes and t-shirts. December 8, 2021

Is it fair to ask someone who has a collection of over 3,000 records what their favorite album is?

Unsurprisingly, André Lessard loves all kinds of music.

He’s been collecting Madonna’s albums for decades (and owns over 380) and listens to jazz, funk, disco, soul, rock, metal and indie.

His record collection ranges from Depeche Mode and the Smiths to new artists like Willow Smith and Celeste.

These are the kinds of things Lessard likes to discuss when customers pass by. Another Spin Records and more, the new downtown Oshawa record store he co-owns.

“I really enjoy discussing music with clients. It’s the stories. Every customer has their own favorite band, their own favorite record and I love to hear about it, ”he says. “Meeting new people in the store opened my eyes and ears to other music. “

Opening a record store has always been Lessard’s dream – his love for vinyl dates back to the age of five and his parents bought him his own turntable.

When his work became unreliable during the pandemic, he took the plunge and Another Spin opened in October at 25 Bond Street East

The store sells new and used vinyls, CDs, cassettes, books and t-shirts and also offers record cleaning using ultrasonic technology.

Born and raised in Oshawa, Lessard has fond memories of frequenting local stores like Star Records, Sam the Record Man, and Wilson and Lee.

He’s excited to make his own contribution to Oshawa’s growing music scene and to introduce vinyl to a new generation of listeners.

“The sound is amazing. We lost that in our music. Children today listen to digital music, they have lost all the feel of analog music. Putting that needle down … there’s no such thing, ”Lessard says.

One of his favorite quotes, and the one he shared recently on the store’s social media accounts, is Neil Young, noting that “Steve Jobs was a pioneer in digital music. But when he got home he listened to vinyl.
