Mystery Box by SoCal: a hidden thrift store full of treasures | Characteristics

At the OC Mystery Box, every day is different and you never know what you are going to find. From everyday household items and vintage cameras, vinyl, clothing, jewelry and one-of-a-kind knickknacks, the OC Mystery Box seems to offer everything and more.

Located in Laguna Hills off Ridge Route Drive, the OC Mystery Box is a small family business. Owner Gerry Delin started the business four years ago with his uncle and now continues to run the store with his wife. The store has been around for a short time, has a four and a half star rating on Yelp and has many positive reviews. The store concept was inspired by storage lockers, and Delin likened the shopping process to the popular “Storage Wars” TV series. It’s not like a typical thrift store and lives up to its name. All of the items they sell are purchased and come from local storage units and online storage auctions. “You have no idea what’s inside and that’s what makes it exciting,” Delin said.

When purchasing, they have no idea what sort of things they are going to come across until they buy the units and dig through the items, hence the mystery. As you can imagine, every now and then they stumble upon some rare stuff. One of Delin’s favorite items he saw was a book autographed by Babe Ruth.

The items offered for sale are those they personally select, which gives the store its own personality. They make new purchases every week and are always adding new items to the mix.

The store is big enough, well organized, and a fun visit. As you walk in you can see the plethora of items to browse. There is a section of the store that is dedicated to vintage vinyl records priced at $ 1 each. This area also has other music related items such as band tees, instruments, CDs, and magazines.

There is also a large selection of artwork and posters, as well as unique interior design. Throughout the store, you’ll see smaller sections of collectibles, such as Disney trinkets, seasonal decor, sports cards, cameras, sunglasses, card games and more. again.

If you appreciate vintage items, like finding unique pieces, or looking for a bit of mystery in your shopping experience, the OC Mystery Box is a good place to check out. Having a mix of everything including antiques and more modern items, there is probably something for everyone here.

You never know what you might find.

The store is open Thursday through Saturday at 11 a.m. at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
