On Friday night, My Morning Jacket performed at the Moody Amphitheater in Austin, Texas. The Jim James-led ensemble released a cover of Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away” in honor of the country legend’s 89th birthday on April 29.

The psychedelic indie rockers kicked off their Austin stand with a 2005 standard, “Wordless Chorus” Z. “Touch Me I’m Gonna Scream Pt. 1” and “First Light” came next, before the band followed up with “Lucky to Be Alive,” from their 2021 self-titled LP. They capped off “Spring ( Among the Living)” with a jam before slowing things down with a soft and bubbly version of “In Color”.

The second half of the single set performance featured the hip shaker “Evelyn Isn’t Real” from the 1999 LP The Tennessee Fire. The band continued to dig into their discography with a 2003 song It’s still moving, followed by an elegant rendition of “Wonderful (The Way I Feel)”. Next, My Morning Jacket performed a fitting ode to Willie Nelson. The set released Nelson’s 1961 country song “Funny How Time Slips Away”, which they last performed on May 16, 2015 at the Tennessee Theater in Knoxville, Tennessee.

My morning jacket faded to an air off Bad impulses and followed with 2015’s “Compound Fractures.” Next, they performed the title track from their sixth studio album, Circuit, which was coupled with “Evil Urges”. The set then unleashed the indie fantasy, “I Will Sing You Songs.” Another track from their 2021 self-titled LP came next before taking “Wasted.” Finally, My Morning Jacket ended the set with “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2.”

The musicians turned up the heat for their encore with a version of 2020’s “Feel You” and 2011’s “Victory Dance.” Next, they played their original “Holdin On to Black Metal.” The last song from the band’s Moody Amphitheater stand featured “One Big Holiday” from 2002.

My Morning Jacket will continue its tour tonight; the group is due to take the stage at the Shaky Knees Music Festival in Atlanta. Then they will continue their tour with a host of dates in the Midwest and East Coast.
