Jeff Tweedy’s recent solo album gets a deluxe edition with Love is the king / Living is the king, which includes a bonus disc containing live versions of the 11 original songs from Love is the king. The extended package arrives digitally and on CD via dBpm Records on December 10 and is available for pre-order. A vinyl version is planned for 2022.
The bonus disc also includes a cover of “The Old Country Waltz” by Neil Young, which Tweedy shared with the luxury edition announcement. The accompanying video features shots from Chicago’s location, The Hideout.
Usually bustling with happy customers, the intimate venue appears calm and empty in the video, before the camera moves into the music room, where Tweedy and his band prepare to perform on stage without an audience. It echoes the original song’s âempty room, bouncing off the wallâ feelings, while also resonating with the ever-changing pandemic times we live in, which initially shut down places like the Hideout for months.
Live performances of the LP were recorded at the Loft, Wilco’s North Side Chicago studio, and in the hometowns of Constellation and Hideout. Tweedy’s sons Sammy and Spencer, Liam Kazar, James Elkington and Sima Cunningham of Ohmme serve as the backing band on the live set. The group, along with Macie Stewart, will join Tweedy for a series of concerts this winter. Tweedy will be performing solo on his dates in Los Angeles.
