It’s Record Store Day – NBC Los Angeles

There are some things that seem like they could easily go on forever, once you start.

Once you start eating a big bucket of popcorn, it’s easy to keep reaching for another piece, then another, then another. Once you start playing an arcade game, you want to shoot down another asteroid, then another, then another.

And flipping through shelves of vintage vinyl? the return, return, return, return, return seems forever, as you anticipate what the next album might be, something funny, funky, flair, the kind of record you’ve been looking for, well, ever?

If there’s ever been a day worth blasting, it’s Record Store Day, which spins again on Saturday, April 23.

The annual celebration, which is about shining a spotlight of support, celebration and gratitude on our local music stores, is known for its special releases, pop-up offers and live shows.

Finding out what’s happening at record stores in your neighborhood is as easy as browsing the Record Store Day site, which lists all participating stores, what’s happening and what visitors can expect.

The 2022 festivities, which celebrate 15 years of Record Store Day, will include a new “Record Store Day” book and a number of “drops” that will roll out by June (you can read more about this process here).

Participating stores are plentiful with Canterbury Records in Pasadena, Amoeba Music in Hollywood and a host of other Southern California gems joining in on the joyful event.

An event that will look a little different depending on where you go, but the vibe will remain the same: help those awesome shops, show off your fandom, make a purchase, see what’s new, say “hello” to the owners, with the understanding that the pandemic shutdowns and unpredictable twists and turns of the past two years have posed a number of challenges for independent businesses.

Return, return, return: It’s true that album aficionados always want to see the sequel, the next poster, the next 45, the next CD, the next disc, which could well be exactly the disc they want.

Here’s next right now: Find out all there is to know about Record Store Day before you stop by your favorite on April 23, or, really, any day beyond, to show your love.
