Greensky Bluegrass and The Wood Brothers concluded their joint August 2022 tour on Saturday at the Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh, North Carolina. On the heels of their collaboration with Billy Strings on Friday at The Caverns, GSBG and Wood Bros have joined forces once again in Raleigh for a cover-packed four-song encore to cap off the momentous run.
GSBG launched its set with a combination of the essential “Past My Prime” and a cover of “Bone Digger” by Cris Jacobs. Greensky continued with Benny Burle Galloway’s ‘Tuesday Letter’, ‘Fixin’ To Ruin’ and ‘Train Junkie’.
The quintet then dusted off Ryan Adams’ “Oh My Sweet Carolina” for the first time since May 2017, according to Phantasy Tour, for a total gap of 381 shows. The group continued with “Monument” from their new album Stress dreams followed by “Do It Alone” from their previous album, 2019 Everything for the money. “Living Over” and “Demons” followed.
Greensky concluded their set with a transparent three-song section that began with “Worried About The Weather” which made its way to the bust of the Grateful Dead’s “China Cat Sunflower”, last performed on August 7, 2021. The set ended with Stress dreams“New and Improved”.
Greensky Bluegrass would return to welcome Wood Brothers guitarist Oliver Wood, bassist Chris Wood and multi-instrumentalist Jano Rix (who played drums and keyboards for the collaboration). The team began with “Get Out My Life Woman”, written by Allen Toussaint and covered by Jerry Garcia Band. GSBG guitarist Dave Bruzza then led the band through the blues standard popularized by The Allman Brothers Band, “One Way Out”. The collaborators kept it in the realm of Duane Allman with “Keep On Growing” by Derek & The Dominos. Greensky Bluegrass and The Wood Brothers concluded the evening and their tour with “I Shall Be Released” by Bob Dylan.
