Andrew Bird and Lucius’ Velvet Underground cover “Venus in Furs”: watch

Andrew Bird and Lucius were among a number of prominent actors who contributed to the recently released track-by-track cover album. I’ll Be Your Mirror: Tribute to The Velvet Underground & Nico, and now they’ve shared an intimate live recording of their version of “Venus in Furs”.

Of course, “Venus in Furs” wouldn’t be complete without John Cale’s iconic viola solo. It makes sense for Bird – who’s somewhat of a violin legend in his own right – to put his own touch on the track, using loop pedals to complement the live performance as he then plucks the four-string instrument. like a banjo alongside Lucius’ Flawless Vocal Harmonies. While no one can match Lou Reed and Company, it’s a cover that rivals the original. Check out their salon performance of “Furry Venus” below.

While we’re on the subject, “Venus In Furs” got another recent coverage at the Toyah House as part of her YouTube series “Sunday Lunch” with husband Robert Fripp. I will be your mirror also includes Kurt Vile & The Violators’ rendition of “Run Run Run”, Iggy Pop and Matt Sweetney’s version of “European Son”, Courtney Barnett’s version of “I’ll Be Your Mirror”, The National’s Matt Berninger covering “I’m Waiting for Man,” and Sharon Van Etten’s “Femme Fatale” with Angel Olsen.
